When and where was the first share issued? Babylon? Rome? Italy during Renaissance? Reuters reports that a dutch student of history, who is an assistant to the mayors of the town of Enkhuizen, found the first share that was issued by the dutch sea trading firm East-India Company in 1606. The company was supposed to pay dividends to the shareholders until 1650, but it started to pay them only in 1610, due to financial difficulties. Payment was in money and spices. The share is going to be displayed at the Westfries Museum in the Netherlands. This is a piece of history.
